The Roku1 has a over heating problem. How is the feel on the casing after a couple hours of use on the Roku2.I stand the Roku1 on its side with a support I built and it cured the heating problem. I do not see how the Roku2 is vented.
As far as I can tell the Roku XDS has all the same options except the gaming/micro sd card.

    Exceptional review ! ‹(•¿•)›

I haven’t had any problems with my Roku 2 overheating. Then again I never had a problem with the Roku 1 either.

Thx! Was wondering guess I’ll keep box 1 and wait for 3

  • TechHarvest

Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!

Excellent review. I saw a refurbished Roku 1 for sale but I think the Roku 2 is worth a couple extra bucks. Also, kudos for loading Tech News Today as a demo. =)

Thanks. BTW I’m an old BOL & TNT listener. I’ve had about 7 or so of my voice mails played on BOL over the years.

Can you watch your local and some other chanels like on cable or not!

  • TechHarvest

    No unfortunately.

Is it true that Roku2 gives SUBTITLES on netflix films while Roku does not?

And the reason why one cannot is likely rooted in the fact that the legacy networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) have a business model where the affiliates make money through serving a location. Roku would nationalize those channels and I bet no affiliate could “broadcast” nationally. Perhaps, also, they’re afraid of Roku. When cable first came along, they complained of copyright infringement and tried to fight having broadcast channels on cable. They probably still have that backward thinking.

    You sound like Conan O’Brian

  • JennaHaze2000

Why did you buy a roku 2 if you have a roku 1?
I’m just wondering. They are bascialy the same device.
Roku one is a excellent device. Too bad netflix butt fucked all of us

I wanted to try out the gaming feature on the Roku 2. I personally feel that Netflix is a great service and their missteps were overblown.

  • JennaHaze2000

Missteps? Netflix will be gone at the end of 2012.

Netflix wants to focus just on streaming movies ,but that will never happen because the studios don’t want to stop selling Blu-rays and DVDs.
Netflix cannot do what Steve Jobs did for the music industry and itunes

  • TechHarvest

I’d be willing to bet money that Netflix will still be around long after 2012 is over.

even though i bought the fully loaded XDS first gen roku, I bought a Roku 2 XD because the XS adds useless features like gaming (kinds of games that are better off played on your phone), ethernet (which is an okay feature, but only a few people are going to be using it, and the usb port doesnt support .avi -_____- to play your own content, I recommend a WD TV Live, they are great! (you can also use netflix, hulu plus, etc on them) only reason i bought a roku was for the international for my mom

Not with Blockbuster Amazon Zune Hulu Epix etc…
Their are pleanty for other companys ready to step in for Netflix’s blunders. Netflix has no future plans to get customers back.
That will be plenty of time for a better service to emerge.

  • TechHarvest

As I said, I’d bet money that Netflix will be around long after 2012 is over. There are other companies as you mentioned that offer competing services, but none are in the same league of Netflix. Netflix is in the process of expanding into the UK. The company is signing deals to create original content. The sentiment of a Netflix demise is WAY overblown. Even with the exodus of subscribers no other company has the same userbase of Netflix.

Maybe I missed it but aside from the ethernet port, do either run off wireless? I’m assuming they do. And if so, wonder if running two in different rooms would pose a problem?

  • TechHarvest

Yes, both have wireless. In fact I don’t run anything wired in my house. If your router is good enough you shouldn’t have any problems running 2 in 2 different rooms. I often run my HTPC and my laptop at the same time.

having a lot of channels on your roku box also slows it down.

  • NotAMystery

    What’s “alot” of channels?

  • firefly2000

The newest update to the Roku 2 fixed an issue it was having with the wi-fi , now if it speeds it up anymore , who knows ?

  • kalle3181
